Saint Micheal’s Hospice - Ripon Sunrise Trail - Fundraiser

Another early start this week I had to be in Ripon for the Bus to Sawley by 05:30.

I was doing the walk with my 3 friends, Sandra, Tracey, Julie and Julie’s dog Benji. We met up and got onto 1 of the 4 Abbots buses. We waited for some latecomers and set off just before 6. It was so dark that we were quite disorientated on route. We arrived in Sawley in the dark and went to register and pay our sponsor money and contributions in the buckets. There is no point me trying to get sponsorship to walk a similar route to the last 4 miles of the Round Ripon Ultra so I just added some cash to the collection.

At 06:40, as the sky was lightening, the runners were set off on the 6 mile journey to Ripon and at 06:43, we were told we set off to walk.

It was a cold clear morning and we were soon treated to bright orange skies as the sun rose.

It was lovely wandering through the changing light, chattering away. It was a great way to have a catch up.

We went along the road behind Fountains Abbey and then followed the trac up to the refreshment table by the top gate.

We had our picture taken in front of the rising sun as it turned our surroundings to gold.

Photo from Saint Michaels FB page.

It was great to be part of south a great event. The route was lovely and we got to enjoy the deer in the dawn light.

Out of the park and the last section, into Ripon and to the Cathedral to finish. We then went to Ripon Rugby Club for breakfast and to collect our certificates.

We had a great catch up and raised some money for charity in the process. I recommend this event if they run it again.
