End of 2023 round up

2023 has been a year of mixed success. My main events were the Tunnel Ultra in March, 3rd attempt and I struggled with my vision in the low light and chose to call it a day after 101 laps.

The #Hardmoors 160 in may was a massive battle between my head and my feet, my feet nearly won, but although I was timed out by nearly 3 hours, I completed the whole course.

In June I did my one and only triathlon of the year, Lakesman half iron distance, that was a good day at the office.

A couple of weeks later was the Hardwolds 40, 47 miles of hills on one of the otters days of the year, although a shorter distance this was a huge mental challenge, since this was the event, where in 2021, I was charged, butted and trampled by an angry cow at 15 miles and ended my race in the hospital. This time I struggled with the heat and the amount of cattle on course but , in my opinion, I smashed it.

The big one was @gbultras Race Across Scotland, it was wet and cold a lot of the time, again my feet tried to beat me, but my head ruled the day, or should I say, 4 days.

I then as a bonus to my year had entered the 13 Valleys. This was tricky from the start, setting off at 6 pm at the end of September meant it was soon dark, the weather was dreadful, so wet. This race ended by being timed out at Coniston.

None of these would have been possible without the never ending support from Billy and his unwaverable faith in my ability to stomp through the suffering. Sarah @renewyourrunning kept putting me through my paces, with brutal hill sessions in all weathers, improving my strength and balance. Also there were others who helped on these journeys, my crew on the 160, Lee-Ann, Tom, Hazel, Anita and Stuart, with Karen popping up unexpectedly along the route to gee me up and feed me ice cream.

Along side challenging myself, I was raising money for 2 amazing charities, raising £205 for @riponwalledgarden

And £520 for @viacharity

Last race of 2023, The bobble hat strikes back

Last race of the year for me, The Bobble Hat Strikes Back with @saturnrunning at #herringtoncountrypark. Undulating 5 km course in strong winds with some mud for good measure.
